While there are tons of free platforms and websites out there that will give you artificially created copy for company and personal use, should you use them? Just because something is free, doesn’t mean it is more worthwhile.

In part 3 of our blog series, we will be going over what AI copywriting is and why it poses a threat to organic and original content.

What is AI copywriting?

AI copywriting is written content that is generated by machine learning and natural language processing software. These tools are used to help you write anything from ad copy to blog posts.

Now, this may seem like the best of both worlds–copy for your business AND it’s free. But it is important to note that AI generated copy can be spotted from a mile away.

Sometimes the content that AI copywriting software generates doesn’t sound human. While the sentence structure and grammar can be correct, oftentimes the way things are worded just isn’t how a real person would speak.

AI copywriting tools can be good for outlining and generating ideas to help you get over the fear of a blank page. However, they shouldn’t be used for copywriting in its entirety. It isn’t designed to be a copy and paste solution. After you use the tool, you need to read it over and modify it.

Unfortunately, the rise of AI copywriting tools has affected the need for some writers, but not the great ones! The software is good at writing factual information, but lacks the ability to write with real emotion. There is a creative arch that a human copywriter has that isn’t anywhere close to being replaced by an AI tool.

Threats of using artificial copywriting tools

AI copywriting isn’t always guaranteed to be original. Some softwares actually pulls information from Google and uses it to generate the written content. This can be a problem as SEO algorithms typically rank duplicating content much lower. Not to mention, you run the risk of plagiarism.

But that’s not all. As much as AI content tools can crank out content fast, they still lack creativity and context. When it comes to pop culture references or connections to the greater picture, an AI copywriting tool is not your go to. The copy can also be too straightforward and wordy.

We understand the desire to try out AI copywriting, but as much as the idea sounds great, it isn’t all that it seems. The software can help brainstorm ideas, but connecting the ideas will still be up to the talents of a copywriter.

At Waypoint Writing, we work hard to help build a creative voice for your brand so you can connect with your consumers on a level that artificial intelligence will never allow you to. Because at the end of the day, nothing can ever replace an authentic, creative voice.
